CEA Forecast - Sales to jump 6% this year
February 2008
The consumer electronics sector will see a 6.1 percent gain in sales in 2008, a “healthy” rise which will bring overall revenues to $171 billion next year. That’s according to the semi-annual industry forecast produced by the Consumer Electronics Association’s economists, and announced by group President and CEO Gary Shapiro in his keynote remarks at International CES. “CE industry sales have exceeded our expectations once again, despite a challenging domestic economic situation,” Shapiro said in the address. “It’s clear that the spirit of innovation will continue to sustain and grow our industry.” The group attributed the expected gain to continued strength in the TV sector, as well as the rise of next-generation DVD players. Gaming is also expected to help drive growth.
