Logistics Ireland is Ireland ’s Premier Supply Chain Management Conference. The tenth annual Logistics Ireland Conference was held in Dublin on 24 September, 2008.
Sercom’s Supply Chain Director, Rose McCarthy, was invited to be one of the panel of speakers, with the conference theme being “Building Resilient & Sustainable Supply Chains.
The other speakers were:
Professor Richard Wilding – Professor of Supply Chain Risk Management at Cranfield School of Management UK .
Velma Baptiste-Destouche - Director of Health, Safety & Environment DHL Exel Supply Chain.
Gerry Power - ERP Division Manager, Datapac.
Rose’s presentation covered the broad macro-economic backdrop, the “Green” question, and the SerCom case study which outlined the strategies involved with creating resilience into an SME business.
As part of the conference, SerCom had commissioned a survey, undertaken by The National Institute of Transport and Logistics, into current corporate views on appropriate supply chains of the future. Among some interesting data compiled was that 80% of respondents stated that environmental / sustainability issues are likely to become more critical, while 51% stated that they are going to make significant changes to their supply chains within the next year.
Rose’s presentation sparked plenty of excellent and lively discussion over the subsequent lunch!!
