The Summer Work Placement Programme
— A Student’s Account
“I recently took part in a summer work placement with SerCom Solutions. I started 3 June and worked until 11 July. Each week I was assigned to different departments to do various work. First I worked in reception for a week which I loved. I then moved to the Materials department where I had to work on SAP, File and Check orders for accuracy and reconciliation with the paperwork. I thought the Materials department was good and the people there were very pleasant, nice and helpful.
My third week was in Production where I worked on a production line. I liked this work the least, but it was a valuable experience; I know this is something I don’t want to do in the future.
I moved back to reception for a week which involved answering the phone to customers, associates from other countries and all people of all levels including MDs, looking after the post, welcoming visitors professionally and helping with visitor travel arrangements. I loved reception, it was my favourite of all the jobs. I got on well with all SerCom employees while at reception. My fourth week was in the Engineering department, accuracy was very important in this area. I thought it was good and again I got on well with the people in that section.
My last week was spent in the Proof of Delivery (POD) department. I had to check paperwork from customers, checking everything was correct with the product and paperwork. I enjoyed this work.
Overall I thought working with SerCom Solutions was a really brilliant experience, it helped me decide what I want to do after school. There were also so many nice and helpful people there to support and encourage me.
They made work easier. I loved working in reception because as I’ve discovered I am a people person and enjoyed dealing with people and helping them everyday. Would I recommend working there to others? Yes, it was a great experience, it taught me so much. I would like to thank Brendan, Lorraine, Laura and everybody else I met at SerCom. I am very grateful for the opportunity to work at SerCom Solutions.”
