SerCom Solutions embraces the Ocean Spirit

On Friday the 24th July Edel Quinn, materials buyer for SerCom Solutions Limerick will head to the golden Atlantic coastline of Portugal in Santa Cruz to represent Ireland in the World Kayak Surf Championships. SerCom are very proud to support Edel in this wonderful achievement.
This World Championships is going to be rolled into the international Santa Cruz ocean spirit festival from the 24th July to the 2nd August 2009, promoting surfing to a higher level of coverage through a multi-disciplined festival of events. In total 600 competitors will compete across 6 different water sports. This will have a lot of coverage on Portuguese TV & Media as you can see on the main website www.santacruzoceanspirit.org
Competition detail
The Irish team is made up of 10 men (2 juniors, 2 masters, 6 senior Men) and 2 women who compete in high performance surf kayaks. This involves 20 minutes heats with 4 people from different countries competing against each other with each win gaining you more points for the overall team results. In all, 20 countries are taking part for the coveted title of world champion. During the last 2 days of the competition the individual finals take place where male & females "surf off" to be the individual world kayak surf champion. Fully qualified board surfing judges are brought in to mark the competition for the week to push the professional edge to this rapidly growing sport. There is very strong competition scene in Ireland and Kayak surfing is one of the only disciplines in which Ireland can offer truly world class conditions with 400km’s of west coastline facing into the Atlantic Ocean.
Edel joined SerCom over two years ago and continued her love of sports based in Limerick with trips to the Basque region, Canada, Central America, France and now Portugal through the sport of kayaking. Edel was involved in a team world championship silver medal in Costa Rica in 2005 and is currently Irish female kayak surf champion for 2008 & ranked no.1 for 2009.
