SerCom Solutions employees provide valuable workplace insight to local students

Employees at SerCom Solutions, Limerick have just presented a first hand insight of working life to students of Crescent College Comprehensive. This is the third year SerCom have been running the Skills @ Work Programme. The programme is being facilitated by the Schools’ Business Partnership (SBP) and is an initiative of Business in the Community Ireland (BITCI). SBP has targeted 152 schools in Ireland that are part of the Department of Education & Science School Completion Programme.
SerCom employees facilitated thought-provoking discussions on what the real world of work is like. The visit started with an overview of the facility, it then looked at the various departments in the operation as well as receiving information on the qualifications necessary to work at SerCom. A presentation on Business Etiquette was also given to highlight the importance of correct etiquette in a business setting. The students were then brought on a site visit of the state of the art logistics facility.
Talks were given by two employees Louise McGrath, a Buyer in the Procurement Department and Declan O’Sullivan, a Supervisor in the Warehouse Department, on their typical working day. The students really enjoyed the talks and the interaction between the students and the employees was brilliant.
Further sessions will be held with the students on CV preparation, interview skills and mock interviews in the coming months.
